All our spectacles are made in our on site laboratory which provides all aspects of glazing and surfacing ensuring a quick service.     Specification   All our spectacles conform to BS2738:part 1: 1989; DOCET  guidelines; HMI guidelines 1997 (aids to vision for fire-fighters). All coatings to conform to BS2724 and BS3062. Spectacle frames to conform to BS6625:1985. All screw threads to conform to BS3172. All spectacles to be CE and EN166 marked were applicable. History In 1991 we were approached as opticians to see what could be done to help keep the professional fire-fighter on active duty and help ease the strain on the pension fund. We had to provide a system that was transferable and easy to fit, therefore eliminating the need for personal masks. The new system had to ensure: The spectacle insert would not steam up. It had to provide a long service life (scratch resistant). The bifocal (if required) had to provide adequate reading, but not obstruct the wearers downward vision.   The effective visual field had to be equivalent to that of a none spectacle wearer. The Fresenel effect had to be reduced to within 1% of a none spectacle wearer, ensuring the 26% light loss experienced by spectacle wearers in BA (double glazing effect) was eliminated and therefore would not effect escape time. It had not to damage the mask or break the seal in any way (therefore we do not have a problem with any of the mask suppliers). All the above has been achieved over the last 10 years and many prototypes have been produced. Over 9000 professional fire fighters now wear the spectacle inserts across the UK.  They can be fitted in many different types of masks and are currently used by both civil and military organisations.   We also have a range of Safety spectacles for use on the fireground and a range of VDU spectacles.
